Well isn’t that the truth, Arizona Robbins. Who better to give Karev advice on women than the lady genius herself. There is so much more to her character than maybe we’ll ever know. How many women has she made great? How many women has she made crazy? Just look at nurse Colleen and her need to hold onto something she lost while hugging Arizona. And now Dr. Lauren, who likes her, A LOT, & felt the need to flash her victory horizontal dance in Callie’s face. In the most subtle and sly way possible I might add. Lauren wasn’t leaving without a fight. And the thing I find interesting about Lauren is she has swagger and confidence - had. That is, until she meets little miss magic smile and crumbles at her feet. Lauren was extravagant and sexy until Arizona said, “no more”. She seemed like a little lost kitten after that.
But what made Callie different? What was it about Callie that made Arizona lose her swagger? Women crumbled at Arizona’s feet, but Arizona crumbled at Callie’s. Did anyone notice when Lauren was lying to Callie, Arizona looked at her as if to say, “I know your type”. In that moment, Arizona’ s logic kicked in and she realized that Lauren is your typical manipulator to gain advantage kind of girl. You could see the “the grass isn’t always greener” on the other side realization in Arizona’s eyes.
Arizona has had many of flings with these kinds of women. And she’s had many of the clingy desperate Colleens. But the rarity of one Calliope Torres is one in a million. Her loyalty, her honesty, and unconditional compassion are traits that many lack. [This is why it is so hard for viewers to watch her get hurt] Who in their right mind could hurt the beautiful soul, Callie Torres? The woman who doesn’t see greatness in herself but she’s always ready to praise everyone else’s. Callie’s oblivion can be so frustrating to watch, but it makes her so innocent and unaware. She just wants to help & heal and love. There’s no ulterior motives, no manipulations for personal gain. And I believe this is why Arizona fell in love with her, in the first place. This is why Callie won her over and kept her coming back for more. Arizona’s re-awakening/realization of how good Callie really is came in the form of Lauren’s brilliant lie. Arizona is a straight shooter, with a good judge of character. ( Well she was until she lost herself) Could you picture Callie lying like that to anyone? This is what makes Callie SOO much better than Lauren. And this is why Arizona fell in love with Callie and her soul to begin with.
